TIPS ON HOW TO STUDY

Isn’t it weird how some people who don’t really seem like they’re studying at all can ace exams with flying colors? Are they born geniuses? Are they nefarious cheaters who slip tiny sheets of paper in their wallet?

While that is also plausible in some cases ,there are some dirty tricks on how to study, or at least have an answer on what’s going to be on the exams.

The first one being making a formula sheet. You often see this being handed out by tuition sites. A few sheets of formulas and explanations that strip textbooks to it’s bare bones. It is very helpful since you can avoid all the clutter of references books to get to that one formula you forgot. And also since the sheet is so minimalistic it is easy on the eyes and on the brains – memorizing wise.

Not only that, you can also make flash cards for the more memory oriented subjects like History or Geography. Flash cards take advantage of the human’s psyche that often forgets what they learn just a few seconds ago and put emphasize on that one word you always seem to forget the definition of.

Finally, you have to pay extra attention in class when the lecturer tells you what will be on the exams. Since our current exam system is more of a test of aptitude rather than general intellect, this last tip is sometimes all you need to get straight A’s in exams.

WORKING WHILE IN SEMESTER BREAK

There has been a lot of debate on whether it is good for college students to work in their semester break or not. In my honest opinion, I think it is beneficial to the college students because of many reasons.

The first one being we as college students need an income to accommodate for our expensive lifestyle, especially since we are new to living by ourselves and not relying directly on our parents.

Other than that, we can be more mature if we work. This is because we are exposed to the working world and have a glimpse of what’s waiting ahead of us when we’ve got a real job.

Next off, we can improve our social skills while working. We can learn how to speak to people in a polite and formal manner especially if it’s a job that is hospitality themed such as waiting tables or being a nurse.

Finally, it is much more profitable for the college student to work part-time and get a little income rather than wasting time hanging around at malls and being glued to social media.

ENGLISH SONGS TO IMPROVE OUR ENGLISH

There are various kinds of ways on how you could improve your English language, ranging from simply speaking more in English, to unscaleable amounts of medium that was designed specifically to improve your language. One of those mediums, is music.

By listening to music that have English lyrics, not only do we have a chance to improve our speaking skills by observing the sentence structure of the lyrics, we can also shine our listening skills since we, obviously, hear music.

Other than that, through the lyrics, the music can teach us basic grammar. For example we can learn the proper placement for nouns and verbs through simple sentences like ‘I miss you’ and ‘Believe in yourself’.

In addition to that, we can be confident that the songs have proper grammar since most of the English singers have the English language as their mother language.

And last but not least, music that expresses emotions and experiences is much more entertaining and relatable to a student rather than a textbook with black and white walls upon walls of text. Thus making music a viable medium for teaching the English language.

DISCIPLINE PROBLEMS IN COLLEGE

One of the common discipline problem that occurs in college in littering. Obviously their parents didn’t teach them that keeping a clean and tidy atmosphere matters. Eventhough trash cans are prepared by the college literally on every corridor, they still impulsively have to litter. Is it so hard to walk pass by a trash can and drop the trash in it?

Even the students having their study in the college smartly but sometimes they can’t run away from their discipline problems since they were in secondary school. Whose parents could say bravely that their child can’t repeat their discipline manner at the college? Impossible. They would think that their child have gone mature and knows how to control the attitude by him/herself. The discipline problems that the students have done could be more critically if they meet the other students from other state especially for them who having the bad discipline at their school before started entering the college.

Finally, sometimes students are rude to their lecturer because they have bad experiences with teachers. This is not the teacher's fault but the student should learn that not all teachers and lecturers are the same and most of them geniunely wants to help their students.

BENEFITS OF STUDYING IN A GROUP

There are many benefits of studying in a group. One of the main reasons why studying in a group is a smart idea is that you will seldom get bored and quit halfway during study sessions. By having friends who are helping and keeping you company in your studies, you can always stay alert and fresh.

What would the student do if they can’t studying alone? Surely they can make a study group among their classmates. Sometimes they cannot easily understand they have learn from the classes so they can make their decision to exchange and expose their opinion with friends. But how far they could be? As far as their think is possible. Studying in a group can also improve their thinking abilities to gain more interesting knowledges. Then, the students can used that into their examination soon. It would prevent from the unfinished tasks.

Finally, some projects are IMPOSSIBLE to do alone, so we need to combine our strength and use our time as best as we can and try to get flying colours. We will also benefit from the friendship that is newly born through our struggles as students.

POEM (courtesy of Syameer 'The Captain' isaac)

SOUNDS LIKE MAGIC
I listened to a seashell,
And thought I could hear,
The rushing of the waves,
Inside my ear.

I held an empty eggshell,
Close against my head,
And thought I heard a pecking chick,
Hatching from it’s bed.

I found a hollow coconut,
And listened for a sound,
And thought I heard horses’ hooves,
Founding on the ground

I took an empty teacup,
To see what I might hear,
And I thought I heard a giant’s voice,

Booming in my ear.

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR SPEAKING SKILLS

There are various ways on how we can improve our speaking skills. One of them, obviously, is to simply talk more in English. By doing that not only do we discover our grammatical errors faster and more conviniently, we also will get more confident in our speaking abilities the more we speak.

Parents also have to take part in their child's progress by buying them exercise books and other learning tools for their children. It is very important that children have early exposure to the subject because it will be easier for them in the future.

Finally, we should encourage everyone to speak as often as possible in English classes. English classes will be very more effective like that because it is the perfect time to learn English and learn from your mistakes.
